Call Before You Dig

Many homes and businesses have a combination of underground utilities located in their yards, such as electricity, water, telephone and cable TV. The location of the utilities are very important when performing landscaping or digging in your yard or business. To locate utility owned lines, all you need to do is make one call. More one call locating info:

  • In North Dakota, call 800.795.0555 or dial 811.
  • In Montana, call 800.551.8344.
  • Lines are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Be prepared to pinpoint the location of your dig site with exact street address and directions, or township, range, section and quarter section.

You will need to describe the type of work to be done and some detail as to where you are working on the site.

Call at least 48 hours before you dig. You can be held liable for damage to underground equipment if you do not call before you dig!

To locate consumer owned electrical lines, contact a qualified electrician.  For Burke-Divide Electric Cooperative members, consumer-owned lines are the lines that go from the meter to your home, shop or grain bins.  BDEC electricians are available to perform secondary locates for our members.  Charges apply.
