January Message from the Manager
Celebrating 75 years!
The fifth day of January is an important day in the history of Burke-Divide Electric Cooperative. For it was on that day in 1945 that a group of rural residents held a meeting in Flaxton which resulted in the formation of Burke-Divide Electric Cooperative.
When the concept of bringing electric service to rural America arose, many people claimed it was impossible. Big investor-owned power companies thought they could not generate enough profit, so they bypassed rural areas.
But because of people with dedication to a cause, people with foresight and purpose, people with determination, joining together, rural electric cooperatives were created to provide electric service for these people and their neighbors.
For the past 75 years, Burke-Divide Electric Cooperative has been committed to providing our member-owners with the best possible electric service at the lowest cost possible, all while thriving in a rapidly changing industry and environment.
Each month this year, we will feature “Historical Highlights” of the cooperative’s rich history. Click here to view our first segment in this series.
As we look toward the future, you can be confident that Burke-Divide Electric Cooperative will continue our commitment to that service—to our members and to our communities—for the next 75 years.
Until next time,
