Scholarship winners announced
Burke-Divide Electric Cooperative believes strongly in the future of area students. To recognize the achievements of these students and to encourage them to prepare for future journeys, Burke-Divide Electric awards three, $500 scholarships each year.
These scholarships are awarded to dependents of Burke-Divide Electric Cooperative members based on academic excellence, school and community involvement, and an essay.
Burke-Divide Electric Cooperative Memorial Scholarship
This year’s recipient of the $500 Burke-Divide Electric Cooperative Memorial Scholarship is Ethan Bakken. Ethan is a senior at Burke Central High School and is the son of Traci and Grady Bakken of Lignite.
At school, Ethan participates in many activities, including basketball, track, cross-country, golf, baseball, speech and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Outside of school, Ethan helps on his family’s farm and is a volunteer with the Lignite Fire Department.
Ethan plans to study agronomy at Bismarck State College in the fall.
Basin Electric Power Cooperative scholarships
Elizabeth Hinds and Ashley Bauer are each a recipient of a $500 Basin Electric Power Cooperative scholarship.
Elizabeth is a senior at Bowbells High School and is the daughter of Monica and Jerome Hinds of Bowbells.
Elizabeth participates in many activities at school, including volleyball, Academic Olympics, Science Bowl, speech, Pep Club, yearbook and LifeSmarts. Elizabeth is active with youth at her church and volunteers at the local food pantry.
Elizabeth plans to study special education and psychology at Minnesota State University-Moorhead in the fall.
Ashley is a senior at Kenmare High School and is the daughter of Gerilyn and Todd Bauer of Kenmare.
Ashley participates in many activities at school, including volleyball, basketball, Student Council, FFA and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Outside of school, she helps on her family’s farm.
Ashley plans to study nursing at the University of North Dakota in the fall.
