USDA approves loan to Burke-Divide Electric
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office of Rural Development has awarded a $10 million loan to Burke-Divide Electric Cooperative. The money will be used to complete system improvements in the cooperative’s 2020-2023 Construction Work Plan.
Projects in the work plan include updating and increasing load capacity of substations, replacing old and installing new transmission line switches for the ability to redirect load, increase service reliability with tie lines, installing electronic sectionalizing equipment, and rebuilding, relocating and updating aged power lines.
The loan comes through the USDA Electric Loan Program as a part of a nationwide $900 million investment to help build and improve electric lines and strengthen reliability in rural areas.
