Co-op adds electric vehicle to fleet
It’s no secret that consumer interest in electric vehicles (EVs) continues to grow. Most automakers are manufacturing electric models of many of their vehicles. Regardless of the type of car you drive today, the electrification of the transportation sector is underway.
Burke-Divide Electric Cooperative recently added a 2022 Ford Lightning to our fleet. We installed an 80 Amp charging station for the EV at our material warehouse in Columbus. The charging station is separately metered allowing us to track electric usage and demand data.
Our EV and charging station will give us first-hand experience with operating an EV, access to key charging and usage data for possible future rate design for EVs, and insights as to what electrical infrastructure is needed to support them. We will share our data and experiences so that members can make informed decisions if considering an EV purchase.
We will use the EV to help raise awareness and promote understanding of EV technologies. We plan to bring our EV to community events so folks have an opportunity to explore the EV, ask questions, and form their own opinions.
We understand making the switch to an EV is a big decision. Whether you’re ready to make an EV purchase or wondering if an EV can meet your daily driving needs, we’re here to help you make an informed decision.
Give us a call if you have questions about electric vehicles or want to schedule a time to come and see our Ford Lightning.
Until next time,
Jerry King
